Major match-fixing research to be presented this week

Since 2012, the International Centre for Sports Security (ICSS) and Panthéon-Sorbonne University in Paris have been working together on the research program “Ethics and Sport Security”.

This week, the outcome will be presented in the shape of 700 pages which offers ‘the first-ever holistic report on Sport Integrity,” the invitation says.

The forum takes place at the Sorbonne in Paris and will outline the key findings of the comprehensive research project.

The cooperation between the ICSS and Panthéon-Sorbonne was initiated in 2012 with two main purposes 1) to identify and assess the efficiency of the available mechanisms to fight the manipulation of sports results 2) to propose the formation of an international legal instrument to prevent, detect, investigate and regulate illegal and unregulated gambling.

The main issues examined in the report are the assessment of the over-all global scale of match-fixing and sports betting, an outline of the risks in governance, transparency and control in relation to sports organisations. The report further more reviews the importance of shared information and suggests tools for prevention and education as well as for regulative frameworks to confine corruption in sport.

“The Research Programme’s Final Report is an independent and neutral scientific study that will offer insights and analyses to provide hope and pave the way for the future of sport integrity,” the invitation says and the forum is anticipated to gather more than 300 leaders from sport, governments and betting organisations.

Play the Game will be present at the forum and will be reporting on the findings.

The event is supported by UNESCO and has the official participation of the Council of Europe.
