For the first time, the International Partnership Against Corruption in Sport invited all nations of the world to join in. While other stakeholders are still kept outside, governments now seem to be engaging more in fighting corruption inside and around the organisations that run sport.

The Independent Review Panel investigating corruption in tennis released its interim report at a press conference on Wednesday. The final report is expected later this year.

FIFA attacks a parliamentary report as “incomplete, missing or downright wrong”. In contrast, UEFA is jubilant. But the perspectives reach much beyond football.

Few observers disagree that many of sport’s governing bodies lack accountability. The question is, how can they best be reformed? Should governments, NGOs or the athletes themselves take control - or can change be achieved from the inside?
