Allegations of corruption in the UCI top
10.09.2013
The cycling news website velonews.com yesterday published an anonymously leaked document said to be the summary of a 54 pages dossier containing allegations of corruption within the International Cycling Union (UCI).
The document names both the current and the former UCI presidents and brings forward claims that they have committed several unethical acts.
The allegations count attempting to cover up Alberto Contador’s positive drug test in 2010, bending drug-testing rules for Lance Armstrong and having solicited a bribe from a cycling team owner and more.
The allegations come at a critical time, just weeks before the UCI presidential election where Pat McQuaid is hoping to be able to run against Brian Cookson for the post. McQuaid who is at the center of the allegations strongly denies the content of the leaked document.
"This evening, a cycling website was anonymously leaked a libellous ‘dossier,’ alleging corruption at the UCI,” McQuaid wrote according to velonews.com.
“The claims in this so-called dossier are a complete fabrication. They are totally untrue and are not supported by a scintilla of evidence.”
According to velonews.com the full dossier was presented to the UCI management committee in June this year by US cycling president Michael Plant who has said that the complete dossier has been gathered by the president of Russian cycling Igor Makarov.
According to the leaked document, the full dossier has now been handed over to law enforcement authorities.
