Iraq disqualified for AFC

Iraq will not be competing in this year's AFC Cup.

The Asian Football Confederation has reluctantly decided to follow FIFA's ban on the Iraq FA.

The Iraq Football Association was banned by FIFA in late November last year after the Iraq Olympic Committee dissolved the country’s football association and stormed its headquarters using armed personnel.

"It is with deep regret that Iraqi clubs cannot participate in the AFC Cup 2010,'' said AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam on the AFC's official website.

"We, however, gave our best efforts in supporting the Iraq FA in trying to ensure that their teams played in the competition.''
