The International Federation of Beach Volley and Volleyball Associations (FIABVB) has announced the dates for the 1st FIABVB friendship and solidarity congress where the founding of a new volleyball world federation to rival the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) will take place. It will take place in Denmark on 25-26 November 2006.

FIABVB invites all national federations, personalities and associations who are willing to participate in creating a new volleyball federation based on ethical principles to join the congress in Copenhagen in November 2006. FIABVB declares that its constitution and ethical principles complies utterly with the fundamental principles of the IOC.

The new FIAVB volleyball federation is spearheaded by Jean Pierre Seppey, former FIVB secretary general, and Mario Goijman, former president of the former Argentine Volleyball Federation.

The Danish Minister of Culture, Brian Mikkelsen, was invited to participate in the 1st FIABVB friendship and solidarity congress. However, Brian Mikkelsen declined saying that it is not within his field of competence as a minister to get involved in the way in which sport organises itself at an international level. Mikkelsen emphasized, however, his strong desire to support a corruption free and doping free sport.

Jean Pierre Seppey says to the Danish newspaper Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten that FIABVB would have welcomed the support of Brian Mikkelsen, but  the preparations for the congress are going ahead as planned. FIABVB is currently in the process of negotiating with hotels in Copenhagen in order to decide on a location for the congress.

Why found a new volleyball federation?

FIABVB is intended as an ethical alternative to the existing FIVB lead by President Rubèn Acosta.
