By Play the GameIssa Hayatou, recently sanctioned IOC member, was backed by all six regions of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at Friday’s general assembly and will stand unopposed at next year’s CAF president elections.
Hayatou has led African football's governing body since 1988.
The backing comes only two months after Hayatou was reprimanded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) following an ethics commission probe into a payment of 100,000 French francs from former FIFA marketing agency ISL.
Hayatou has rock-solid support in Africa and the reprimand from the IOC did little to dissuade CAF constituents.
