By Play the GameVolleyball's world body, the FIVB, has changed the rules for beach volley uniforms, offering alternatives to the bikini in order to appeal more to players with other religious or cultural requirements.
After a three day meeting in Lausanne this sunday, the FIVB Board of Administration approved a change in the beach volley uniform rules. The modified women’s uniform rule will apply for all beach volleyball tournaments, including the Olympic Games.
According to the FIVB press release, the change was made in order to respect the custom and/or religious beliefs of other nations.
Three extra uniform choices has been added to the bikini and the one-piece suit, and players can now choose to cover up with longer shorts, sleeved or sleeveless tops or a full body suit.
