Limited media access to the IOC hotel in Copenhagen

Normally accredited media representatives are allowed into the IOC-hotels during all sessions. That was also the case, when the IOC members arrived at the Marriott Hotel Wednesday on the eve of the official opening ceremony in Copenhagen Opera.

But when reporters arrived at the IOC-hotel late Thursday night after the opening ceremony, they were not allowed into the hotel. According to police officers watching the front door and the head of security at the Marriott, IOC had decided to limit the media access from 7.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m.

President of the Olympic Journalist Association, Alain Lunzenfichter, has accepted the limited media access to the Mariott Hotel, because the hotel lobby is small and has been crowded with reporters since Wednesday.

“But when the IOC’s election of the host city for the 2016 Olympics is over and many of the present reporters are leaving Copenhagen again, I expect that the media will be given full access to the hotel and the IOC members during the congress and the remaining days of the session. If not, I will take action”, says Alain Lunzenfichter.
