On 2 May 2006, a small news reporting team investigating a story was assaulted by a group of professional football players from Club Sport Ancash, writes the Institute for Press and Society (IPYS), Lima. The incident took place in Huaraz, capital of the Ancash region in northwestern Peru.

The four news investigators, Javier Poma Sotelo, Luis Medina Villacorta, Nilton Rodríguez Soto and César Giraldowere were following the football players inside the discotheque "Cordillera Blanca " as part of an investigation when they were discovered by the discotheque owner.

The discotheque owner rushed towards them and snatched their camera while urging the football players to react. The football players assaulted and beat the journalists.

The journalists were forced to leave and had lost their camera during the violent assault. They filed a complaint at the local police station.
