Matthias is a Research Associate at the Chair of Constitutional Economics of the Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg. At “Play the Game 2015” he showed if, when and how the FIFA World Cup boosts the economy by using an economic growth model. At “Play the Game 2017” he underlined the harmful effects of sport mega-events on the Brazilian economy with first-hand empirical findings. His ongoing dissertation is a consistent development of his Master thesis, now enabling him to investigate the economic performance of specific mega event host countries. And to further evaluate economic, social and ecological criteria of an “ideal host country” for major sport events.
