IOC restores corrupt South Korean Park Yong-sung in IOC with no clear reason.

On 9 February 2007, the suspended IOC member Park Yong-sung was given an amnesty for his fraud conviction by South Korean president Roh Moo-hyun. A few days later, Park was welcoming the IOC bidding committee that came to assess Pyeongchang as host for the Winter Games in 2014, even though the judo president is still suspended from the IOC.

A group of female ski jumpers from Canada has filed a complaint with Canada’s Human Rights Commission as a way to get the Canadian government to pressure the IOC on its decision not to include women’s ski jumping in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. The ski jumpers say IOC’s decision discriminates them.

For Franco Carraro, 2006 was a rollercoaster. He resigned as president of the Italian Football Federation because of the match fixing scandal in Italian football last summer. Then Carraro , an IOC member and member of UEFA and FIFA. was banned from sport leadership for 4.5 years. But appeal after appeal diminished the punishment and now the IOC Ethics Commission has also given him a clean bill of health.

Park Yong-Sung who was suspended from the International Olympic Committee earlier this year after being convicted of fraud in South Korea could be involved in a last minute attempt to save his seat on the IOC. His name is on a list of convicts whom the South Korean president is said to consider for an amnesty.

About a month after having posted a joint and quite strongly worded letter to European Commissioner Jan Figel, the tone from FIFA and the IOC seems to soften a bit.

Yet another battle has broken out between UEFA and FIFA and this time FIFA is backed by IOC, spearheaded by Jacques Rogge. IOC and FIFA are unhappy that EU wants to get involved in the affairs of elite sport. UEFA on the other hand calls for stronger co-operation with the EU.

The president of the French Olympic Committee has been found guilty of corruption charges and has received a suspended sentence of three months in jail. Henri Serandour was accused of giving two lucrative jobs from the national Olympic Committee to a communication company that employs his wife.
