Play the Game seeks governance researcher

The Danish Institute for Sports Studies is an independent research centre set up by the Danish Ministry of Culture in 2004 to initiate and develop a broad range of social science research projects in the field of sports and sports politics and stimulate public debate around key issues. Since merging with Play the Game in 2011 the institute is also responsible for organising the international Play the Game conference that promotes good governance, democracy, transparency, and freedom of expression within the international sports community. Play the Game is currently coordinating a number of projects developing benchmarking tools for national and international sports governance.

The institute combines the roles of researcher, consultant and communicator on the basis of four core values: Independence, professionalism, relevance, and impact. We strive to develop strong research designs, deliver penetrating analyses and communicate them in an action-oriented way to decision-makers and practitioners alike.

As our governance researcher, you are experienced in designing, managing, completing and communicating research projects. You are able to work systematically and meticulously and to carry out indicator-based research with attention to detail.

Your spoken and written English is excellent, and you combine your academic expertise with an ability to communicate research findings to the wider public. Your educational background is within the social sciences (e.g. political science), and you have research experience from the field of governance in general (not necessarily in sports governance). You have a PhD degree or substantial experience from a research institution or similar.

You will get a key role in international research projects, and you are able to thrive in collaboration with colleagues from different cultural and political backgrounds both professionally and personally.

You have an entrepreneurial approach and are able to create results as part of a team.

Your daily workplace will be in the heart of Aarhus, Denmark. You will be surrounded by skilful colleagues in an environment characterised by personal freedom, flexibility, and friendliness. Although your main focus will be on international projects, you may occasionally be asked to contribute to some of the domestic projects in our institute. Therefore we require that you are willing to learn Danish over time. At the office, the daily language is Danish. Knowledge of other main European languages than English will be an advantage.

The first round of interviews will take place on Monday 20 January 2020 and the second round on Monday 27 January. During the first round of interviews, international candidates will be interviewed via Skype.

Your contract will be negotiated on the basis of Danish labour agreements. We hope to fill the position by 1 March 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
