Play the Game extends deadline for grant applications

Play the Game offers a limited number of travel and conference grants for media professionals, sports researchers, sports leaders and other relevant persons from less privileged countries.

The new deadline for submitting a grant application is 27 June 2013.

Subsidies will primarily go to people from developing countries, but applicants from other countries outside the EU may also be considered. A travel grant consists of the full or partial financing of

• Full conference package including lunch and dinner, social events, conference materials, etc.
• Accommodation in 2-4 bedded dorms at hotels or hostels within walking distance from the conference venue
• Travel costs to Aarhus, Denmark, and back (only in exceptional cases)

‘Play the Game 2013 – Stepping up for democracy in sport’ takes place in Aarhus, Denmark on 28-31 October 2013, and will be the eighth time Play the Game opens its doors for stakeholders in sport.

The call for papers has recently been extended, and Play the Game urges all grant applicants to also submit an abstract for the conference.

This is an excellent opportunity to tell your stories and make your opinions heard in an international forum, and a chance to influence the debate on essential issues in world sport.

Since the last conference in 2011, governance in sport has gained an even greater international focus as corruption allegations in a number of sports organisations catches the public’s attention. Sport’s efforts to reform itself are central elements that run through all of the conferences main themes. The themes are:

• Match-fixing: Fair game for gangsters?
• Sports reforms: Fact or phantom?
• The anti-doping dilemma: Saving sport, sacrificing athletes?
• Recreational sport: A lost cause for sports organisations?
• Sports facilities: Who are we building for?
• From Russia to Rio: Power games or people’s games?
• Open forum
