Ricardo Teixeira resigned his seat on FIFA’s Executive Committee for “personal reasons” yesterday, one week after leaving his posts as president of the Brazilian football confederation and the 2014 World Cup organising committee.

FIFA has now asked the South American soccer confederation CONMENBOL to act immediately in order to find a replacement for Teixeira:

''CONMEBOL will now have to decide immediately on the replacement of Ricardo Teixeira as one of their representatives on the FIFA executive committee for the remaining period of office,'' FIFA said in a statement.

Teixeira had been a member of the committee since 1994 and his resignation means an end to his long and controversial career with charges of corruption and power abuse.
