IOC publishes recommendations against match fixing
After a year, the IOC working group on irregular and illegal betting in sport has launched a number of recommendations to combat illegal betting, including the issue of match-fixing in sport.
The working group includes representatives from the sports world, governments, international organisations and betting operators.
Against the threat of irregular and illegal betting it recommends, among other things, more education of athletes, the development of monitoring and information exchange systems between the authorities, betting operators and sports organisations, national legislation against illegal sports betting activity and the criminalisation of cheating linked to sports betting.
The working group has also approved the formation of a monitoring unit, whose mandate will be to follow the progress of the implementation of these recommendations. The monitoring unit will report its findings to the Working Group at its next meeting.
