With a record number of more than 150 speakers, Play the Game 2011 is heading for its biggest and most wide-ranging conference since its start 14 years ago.

The final programme is launched today – click here to download it -  testifying to a steadily growing interest among international experts to add their knowledge and visions to the debates on international sport politics.

“We are in decisive times for the future of sport, and it takes a strong public engagement to change the course sport has set towards self-destruction.

Therefore it is encouraging for all sport lovers that so many people who set the international agenda have chosen to join Play the Game, taking the debates on fundamental issues some steps further,” says Jens Sejer Andersen, International Director and responsible for the conference.

Among the main themes on the conference agenda are the fight against corruption in sport, the societal value of mega-events, the continued development of anti-doping policies, gender discrimination and how to enhance grass-root sport.

One of the reasons for the expanded programme is that Play the Game has actively involved a number of international partners as co-producers of content. For instance, workshops are set up by Supporters Direct, Sport and Citizenship, Nintendo, International Sport and Development Association, European Journalism Centre and by the host German Sport University Cologne.

There is still time to register and prices are favourable. The full four day conference including meals and social activities costs only 600€ (one-day packages 200€). On top of that, participants can get free access to a one-day seminar on sports journalism and sports history arranged by German national broadcaster Deutschlandfunk.
