The World Cup host election last month was surrounded by harsh allegations and revelations of bribery and corruption within the International Football Federation and President Sepp Blatter now personally vows to take care of any corruption in the organisation.

In an interview yesterday with Swiss newspaper SonntaggsZeitung, FIFA President Sepp Blatter reveals plans to set up an anti-corruption committee to end corruption in the international federation.

"This committee will strengthen our credibility and give us a new image in terms of transparency,” Blatter tells SonntagsZeitung.

The committee will consist of seven to nine members who will not only be from sport but from a broad range of stakeholders such as politics, business and finance.

While choosing not to be on the committee himself in order to ensure the independence of the committee, Blatter promises to monitor the unit closely.

"I will take care of it personally, to ensure there is no corruption at Fifa," he said in the interview.

The composition of the new body will be made public at the FIFA congress in Zurich in June this year.
