Bidders from Germany, Slovenia and South Africa compete to host Play the Game 2011

Play the Game has received three bids which all offer great visions and perspective for the hosting of the next Play the Game conference.

The bids to host Play the Game 2011 come from three different institutions in Germany, Slovenia and South Africa.

The German bid comes from the German Sport University Cologne (Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln) which is Germany’s largest centre of teaching and research in physical education and sport science. 

From Slovenia, the new International Institute for Sustainable Development, Policy and Diplomacy of Sport (SPOLINT), based in Ljubljana and directed by Dr. Milan Hosta is applying. SPORTICUS, the Slovenian institute of fair play and tolerance in sport is backing the SPOLINT bid.

Third bidder is the South African Stellenbosch University and its Sport Performance Institute (SUSPI). SUSPI is a sport company aiming at making Stellenbosch University a world class sports training, education and research destination for both local and international athletes.

“The quality of the three bids is impressing, and it is a great encouragement that such strong institutions are ready to engage in promoting democracy, transparency and freedom of expression in sport,”, says Play the Game Director Jens Sejer Andersen.

“We are facing a tough selection procedure, because all three candidates will be able to provide inspiration for the content and good facilities for the arrangement.”

Within the next months Play the Game expects to have chosen a host city that can look forward to receiving between 300 – 400 journalists, researchers and sports leaders from all corners of the world.
