“This contract no longer reflects the reality of the situation," says Rogge

In a report by the IOC President, Jacques Rogge, to the 121st IOC Session in Copenhagen, the wish for changes in the agreement with the American National Olympic Committee (USOC) surfaced.

 
Rogge said: “A contract which the IOC signed with USOC at the end of the 1990s entitles the NOC to 12.75 per cent of the television rights revenue on United States territory, and 20 per cent of the TOP (the commercial program, ed.) programme revenues.”

"The Olympic movement feels that this contract no longer reflects the reality of the situation," Rogge concluded.
 
Speculations have been made to which extent the wish to change the existing agreement of the distribution of means between the USOC and the IOC affected Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games in a negative manner.

An honorary member of the IOC, the 86-year old Niels Holst-Sørensen, who has no voting rights himself rejects to talk about a plot:

“In my time I have never experienced that the members coordinate their votes so much that you can call it a plot. But obviously the members talk with each other, and it is very likely that the dispute over money has played an important role in this matter.”
