Sports want help to fund anti-corruption units

25.02.2009

Sports bodies will reignite their fight for an anti-corruption levy on bookmakers this month to combat the growing threat to the integrity of their competitions.

Governing bodies are becoming exasperated at the increasing financial burden of fighting corruption in their sports. The International Cricket Council and the Association of Tennis Professionals both spend £1m a year on their integrity units out of central funds.

A lack of resources means only one compliance official works full-time on match-fixing issues at Soho Square, prompting the FA privately to express fears it is losing the battle.
