Racing industry is “too demanding” on horses

09.06.2009

HORSE RACING consultant, Dene Stansall dropped in to the Hillman theatre earlier today to give his damning verdict on why the racing industry is constantly failing the horse. Mr. Stansall believes the industry is far too demanding these days and argued horses are thrown in at the deep end far too soon, writes Gary Barnes.

“Too many horses are vulnerable to failure and if they do, are forgotten about and pushed aside,” Stansall said. “Thoroughbreds (a breed of horse used for racing) aren’t given much of a chance with the way people in the industry test the horse straight away and doesn’t give it much time to find its feet and a preferred race.”
