Pistorius gives up on World Championship

21.07.2009

Double amputee Oscar Pistorius has given up trying to qualify for the 400 meters at the World Championships in Berlin next month, he has admitted.

The South African, who has been attempting to make the qualifying mark for Berlin, also failed to reach last year's Beijing Olympics having won a long battle over the right to compete with able-bodied athletes.

The Paralympic gold medallist ran a season's best of 47.07sec in Lucerne last week - well short of the qualifying time of 45.95.
