IPC raise ban on Intellectually disabled athletes

23.11.2009

The International Paralympic Committee has voted in favour of lifting a 9 year old ban and allowing intellectually disabled athletes (ID athletes) to compete at the London Games 2012.

ID athletes have been banned from participating in the Paralympic Games since 2000. The ban came in place after it turned out that most of Spain's ID basketball team competing in the Sydney Games were not disabled.
