19.08.2009

Allegations of attempted match-fixing have emerged in the prestigious Ashes cricket series between England and Australia.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that it is investigating a report by the Australian squad of suspicious betting activity during the current Ashes series.

It emerged that an Australian player was approached by a man linked to illegal betting rings at the team's hotel bar yesterday, who then contacted team officials.

The Ashes series, this year taking place in England, pits English and Australian teams against each other every two years and is one of the most eagerly anticipated sporting events in both countries. The series enters its deciding match tomorrow.
