Play the Game chairman gets top position in elite sport

23.06.2006

The chairman of the board of Play the Game, Michael Andersen, has been appointed Director of the national Danish elite sports institution Team Danmark. The 48-year old chairman was selected amongst 35 applicants.

Michael Andersen has a broad background in sport as a player, coach, voluntary leader, researcher and professional administrator. Currently, he is a Vice Chancellor at the University College of Health in Aalborg.

It is not yet clear what Michael Andersen’s new position will mean for his role on Play the Game’s board. The chairman is appointed by the Danish Minister of Culture, whereas the other members represent the sports organisations and The International Federation of Journalists.

The board and secretariat congratulate Michael Andersen, who has played in important role in the construction of Play the Game. Director Jens Sejer Andersen hopes that Michael Andersen will continue on the board for some time:

“In the long run conflicts of interests may appear between directing Danish elite sport and chairing an institution that must be able to raise uncomfortable questions with elite sport as a whole. But as we are in the middle of a very important process of strengthening the future structures and finances of Play the Game, we hope to keep Michael Andersen on the board at least until that process is over.”
