Togolese sports journalist Agboklou Komi Prosper was on tuesday savagely beaten by football player Salifou Moustapha in an unprovoked attack outside Lome’s main football stadium as the team arrived for a training session.

When later confronted, Moustapha said that Prosper had spoken about his private life on radio.

The Togolose Sports Journalists’ Association has strongly condemned the attack, which it has labelled childish behavior. The association urged all colleagues to be vigilant and always observe the code of professional ethics.

Play the Game has gathered a list of journalists who have been assaulted, killed or endured legal actions for their reporting on sport during the first half of this decade, which clearly shows that safety is an issue for sports journalists too.
