Getting around
Bus:
There is a well-established network of public buses in Eindhoven. Tickets can be purchased on the bus (cash or credit card with chip.) One-way ticket is EUR 3.75 and one-day ticket is EUR 6. From the city centre and the Eindhoven Central Station to the conference venue you can take public bus 318 (direction Luyksgestel). Plan your bus trip.
Taxi:
Taxis are easily found (more expensive than public transportation). Taxis accept cash (only local currency) and the most common credit cards.
Bike:
At the conference venue a number of bikes will be available for rent, either by the hour or on a daily basis. You can rent a bike at the hotel for EUR 8 per day
Weather and clothing
Expect 0-10 degrees Celsius. The weather can be quite nice and friendly in the late Dutch autumn but unfortunately it can also be rainy, windy and cold. Be prepared for anything. There is a wardrobe at the conference venue for coats and jackets but on your own responsibility.
Currency & exchange
The currency in The Netherlands is Euro (EUR). For currency conversion see: http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/
Banks/ATM machines
Banks are usually open from from Monday to Friday between 09.00 and 17.00. Credit cards are widely accepted, in particular Visa & MasterCard. There are plenty of ATM machines in the city centre.
Electricity
The local voltage is 220 volt AC, 50Hz current and uses two-pin plugs (remember to bring an adaptor if needed). Sometimes three-pin sockets can be found, but two-pin plugs also fit in these sockets (should however not be used for appliances that need grounding).
Language
The official conference language is English. Remember that for most participants – and most speakers – English is not their native language. Take your time and speak slowly and clearly.
