Eindhoven
Eindhoven is the fifth biggest city in The Netherlands and is known as the Netherlands’ high-tech industrial heartland, also known as the 'Brainport' Region. The city of Eindhoven is a design and technology hub surrounded by an innovative culture.
Electronics giant Philips was founded in Eindhoven in 1891. Although Philips moved to Amsterdam in the 1990s, Eindhoven remains a centre of high-tech research and innovation. The industrial area Strijp-S, where the Philips factory was once located, has now turned into a creative and cultural attraction in the city.
The city's focus on technology and innovation is also traceable in its educational institutions which include the Eindhoven University of Technology, the High Tech Campus, Fonty's University of Applied Science and the Design Academy.
