From 28 October to 2 November 2007, 245 leading media professionals, academics, and officials in world sport gathered in Reykjavik to discuss corruption, doping, political abuse, changing lifestyles and a number of other challenges to modern sport. The conference focused upon five key themes:
There was also an open forum, where issues not covered by the above themes, could be discussed and debated. The main goal of the conference was the creation of coalitions for good governance in sport, to be achieved through the strengthening of existing networks on the forging of new ones, via both formal and informal mechanisms. As an institution, Play the Game aims to strengthen the basic ethical values of sport and encourage democracy, transparency and freedom of expression in world sport. It is with this goal in mind that the Play the Game conference is held on a biannual basis.
