Gigi Alford

Gigi Alford is a Master's candidate at Oxford University and wrote her 2015 thesis on the confluence of the FIFA Statutes, Swiss private law, and international human rights law.
In May 2015, she joined the U.S. Department of State in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor where she serves as a policy advisor on issues related to business and human rights and Internet freedom. In this capacity, Gigi works on implementation and promotion of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights by state and non-state actors, and she engages in multilateral and multistakeholder venues to promote fundamental freedoms online.
Prior to this, Gigi was Senior Program Officer at the international NGO Freedom House, where she managed grants to protect online activists and to magnify civil society voices in global Internet governance debates. From 2009 to 2010, she was a Knight Foundation Fellow in community journalism in which she studied readers' evolving digital news appetites and the role of individual printers in the history of press freedom in America.
