Senior adviser, Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ)

Speech at Play the Game 2002  Jean-Paul Marthoz is senior adviser for the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ, New York) and vice-chair of the advisory committee of the Europe and Central Asia division of Human Rights Watch. A foreign affairs columnist at Le Soir he teaches international journalism at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL, Belgium) and journalism ethics at the Institut des Hautes Etudes des Communications Sociales (IHECSS, Brussels). Jean-Paul Marthoz has been foreign editor and chief of the editorial page of Le Soir, director of the Media for democracy Program at the International Federation of Journalists, European press director of Human Rights Watch (1996-2006) and editorial director of the foreign affairs quarterly Enjeux internationaux. He is the author or coauthor of some 20 books on journalism, human rights and international relations. He was born and lives in Belgium. Links:
