Bob Munro is the Managing Director of XXCEL Africa Ltd. Since 1985 he has lived and worked in Africa as a senior adviser on environmental policy, water resources management and sustainable development for African governments, African regional organizations and the United Nations.
He is the founder and Chairman of the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA), a pioneering self-help youth sports for development project started in 1987 in one of Africa's largest and poorest slums. Today over 30,000 youth participate in the MYSA sports, environmental cleanups, AIDS prevention, leadership training, jailed kids, photography, music and other community service activities. He is also the founder and Chairman of Mathare United FC (1994), one of Kenya's top and most popular football clubs, and a founding Director (2003) and former Chairman of the Kenyan Premier League Ltd (KPL).
Among other awards, MYSA/Mathare United FC won the 1992 UNEP Global 500 Award for environmental innovation (Rio de Janeiro), the 2001 African Youth Development Award (Johannesburg), the 2004 World Sports Academy/Laureus Sport for Good Award (Lisbon), the 2008 Score4Africa Environment Award (London); the 2010 Common Ground Award for community and peace building (Washington) and the 2011 Beyond Sports Award for Leadership in Sport (Cape Town). The MYSA youth were the FIFA Football for Hope champions during the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006 and in South Africa in 2010.
