Sport participation in Europe: Challenges from a policy perspective - Play the Game 2011 (PP Pdf.) CV Jeroen Scheerder studied (social) kinesiology, marketing and social and cultural anthropology. He is an associate professor at the K.U.Leuven, Research Unit of Social Kinesiology & Sport Management. His research focuses on policy-related and socio-economic aspects of sport and leisure-time physical activity. He lectures in the fields of public policy in sport, (public) management in sport, and marketing of sport events. He is a guest professor at the universities of Cassino, Cologne, Jyväskylä, Kaunas and Porto, and was a visiting professor of sport sociology at the Faculty of Political & Social Sciences, Ghent University (2005-2007). He is a lecturer in the Intensive Programme on Sport in the EU and its Member States and in the Intensive Programme on European Identity through Volunteering in Sport. He is a staff member/lecturer in the Advanced Studies in European Sports Law & Sports Policy at the K.U.Leuven and a guest lecturer in sport policy in the Expert Class in Professional Sport Management at the Free University of Brussels. He has published in different international journals, such as the European Journal of Sport & Society, the European Sport Management Quarterly, the International Journal of Sport Management & Marketing, the International Review for the Sociology of Sport, the Journal of Sports Sciences, Science & Sports and Sport, Education & Society. He is the editor/author of about fifteen books on sport, participation and policy. Previously he has been an advisor for the Flemish Ministry of Sport.
