Arnout Geeraert

Post-doctoral Fellow at University of Leuven, Governance Advisor to Play the Game

Arnout Geeraert is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at University of Leuven, LINES institute. His recent work analyses the role of the European Union in international sport through different theoretical lenses, looks into elements of good governance in sport organisation, and explores the causes of corruption in international sport federations. His work has appeared in such journals as Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of European Integration, Journal of Sport & Social Issues, and Journal of Environmental Policy and Planning. He is the author of "The EU in international sports governance" (Palgrave, 2016).

Arnout Geeraert is a member of the UNESCO MINEPS VI Working Group "Protecting the Integrity of Sport". He has acted as a consultant for the Council of Europe, advised the EU Expert Group on Good Governance, and develops the Sports Governance Observer for Play the Game / Danish Institute for Sports Studies. He is the research coordinator of the 'SGO2017' EU Erasmus+ project on good governance in national sport federations and has recently devised a code and indicators of good governance in sport federations on behalf of the Flemish government.
